Love like you

Yesterday was my dad’s 59th birthday. Today marks five years since my mama passed away. It’s a very weird, bittersweet end to the month of August.

It’s been a long hard month of reflection for me. There’s been so much going on in my life and Bobbi’s life, and stuff like that usually forces one to kind of reassess their life. It’s goddamn exhausting, but it’s life, it happens, and we keep moving.

Still, it’s nice to write down stuff I’ve been thinking a lot about. And I’ve been thinking a lot about my parents.

I am so lucky to have been raised by two amazing people. They’ve always supported me and loved me unconditionally, which has been so important to me and my sister. I know I wouldn’t be where I am now without that.

My mama taught me to shine, to be genuine and the importance of laughter. My daddy has shown me the value of hard work, the importance of honesty and bravery and integrity. Above all they’ve shown me the strength of love and the importance of being kind.

I’ll never be able to express how much these lessons have shaped me and inspired me to be better. I can’t be any more than I am, but because of my parents, that might be okay.
